Brief Overview

Great Lakes Ag Energy is an applied research and biomass-to-energy products development company. Current projects include; biomass deconstruction, rapid sugar analysis technology, cellulose sourcing & processing, and biofuels infrastructure development. Our partners include; local farmers/biomass growers, businesses, research institutions, and biofuel producers.

We began operations in 2005, distributing biofuels and seeking investors for our own and other large projects in the nascent biodiesel industry.  After a period of brisk, Hurricane Katrina-driven sales, we made the hard decision to move away from both direct distribution and developing our own biorefineries. Instead we have focused upstream on the vital R & D required for a viable biofuels supply-chain.  Our work now centers on a public-private partnership to bring emerging technologies to market, and maximizing the region’s greatest renewable resource – lignocellulosic biomass.  Through the Prairiefire Biofuels Cooperative we continue to support distribution, but are primarily at work developing cellulose isolation, pretreatment, and enzymatic hydrolosis technologies for a new generation of biofuels and biochemicals.
